Fabric Selection and Cleaning

Marshfield Furniture features a wide selection of fabrics including traditional, contemporary, Americana, novelties, and exclusive patterns. We have stripes, florals, plaids, and solids in a rainbow of color choices. Our experienced
designers choose each fabric based on color, pattern, and applicability to our line. Every year we add over 70 fabrics in order to insure our customers of the latest styles and colors. When choosing a fabric, keep these factors in mind:
- Use fabrics appropriate for the setting. For expample, cotton fabrics may not be the best choice for a family room in a household with young children. Don't forget that direct sunlight can damage many fabrics.
- Consider fabric content when selecting fabric. While content does not equal durability, it does determine fabric characteristics.
- Be sure that the fabric can be used on a specific frame. The price list indicates whether a frame can use a plaid, stripe or floral matched fabric. Any other fabric restrictions are noted on the price list. Fabric applicability is
determined in the design process. These decisions are made because certain fabrics do not look good on certain frames.
- Understand our fabric information. Fabric grades are codes that relate to the cost of fabric. The cost is usually determined by the fibers used and the intricacy of the manufacturing process. Fabric grades DO NOT indicate the
durability of the fabric.
- Be familiar with the fabric warranty. Fabrics purchased by Marshfield DO NOT usually carry a warranty from the mill. As a service to our customers and because we believe that furniture without fabric warranty hurts the customer, we
apply a ONE YEAR warranty (from date of purchase) to our fabrics. Some fabrics carry a mill applied wear dated warranty of up to two years. Information about these fabrics is available from Marshfield's Marketing Partners.
- This warranty DOES NOT apply if the customer applies fabric treatment (RAFT) to the fabric. RAFT can cause pilling, seam slippage, seam separation, fabric damage, and foam deterioration. The use of any fabric treatment VOIDS OUR
WARRANTY. For this reason, we require proof of purchase from the customer before fabric warranty service.
- Our fabric warranty is also void in the following circumstances: abuse, misuse, improper cleaning, use in commercial settings, pet damage, and cigarrette holes. We reserve the right to inspect product with alleged fabric problems and
determine our reponse.
Fabric Care and Cleaning
The proper care of furniture contributes to its continued good looks. Caring for furniture requires the following steps:
1. Vacuum or brush lightly to remove dust and grime.
2. Turn cushions monthly. This prevents the cushion covers from traveling around the cores.
3.Remove dust, dirt, and debris from the deck.
4. Plump pillows and turn regularly.
5. Clean spills immediately and follow recommended cleaning instruction.
6. Contact a professional furniture cleaning service to remove overall soil or stains.
Note: Some materials used in upholstery will burn rapidly and emit toxic gases when ignited. Use care when smoking.
The furniture industry has adopted standard coding to indicate the proper cleaning method for upholstery fabrics. Always pretest a small area before cleaning the entire piece of furniture.
- (W) Use a water-based cleaner. Spot clean, using the FOAM only from a water based cleaning agent such as a mild detergent of nonsolvent upholstery shampoo product. Apply foam with a soft dry brush in a circular motion. Vacuum when dry.
- (S) Use a solvent cleaner. Spot clean using a mild WATER-FREE solvent or dry cleaning product. Clean only in a well ventilated room and avoid any product containing carbon tetrachloride or other toxic materials.
- (WS) Use a Water or Solvent cleaner. Either of the methods for assistance in cleaning the fabric.
- (DC) Dry Clean Only. Contact a professional cleaning service for assistance in cleaning the fabric.
- (X) Use a Vacuum only. None of the above methods can be used safely. Clean only by vacuuming or light brushing to prevent the accumulation of dust and grime.
