Seat Cushions:
- Marshfield Furniture seat cushions carry a lifetime warranty. Our cushion materials are carefully selected for the proper balance of density, resilience, and compression.
- Our lifetime cores feature high density, high resilience (HR) polyurethane foam cores layered with Dacron polyester wrap.
- Marshfield Furniture's CLOUD cushions feature the comfort seating of down and feathers. This wonderfully plush seating is available on specific frame styles (as an upgrade).
- All cushions soften with use. 15% softening is the acceptable industry standard under conditions of normal in-house use.

Definitions:
Density = Measurement of the weight percubic foot. Density ranges from 2.0 pounds per cubic foot to 2+ pounds per cubic foot. Density does NOT equal firmness.
Marshfield lifetime cushions use 2.0 pound foam
High Resilience (HR) foam has a high support factor and greater surface elasticity or springiness. Adds support, comfort, and bounce.
Marshfield lifetime cushions use HR foam exclusively
IFD is defined as Indentation Force Deflection. It is measured as the force in pounds required to compress a standard sample by 25%. This testing is done in a laboratory and is sometimes refered to as ILD.
The comfort of a cushion and how long it will last are determined by the combination of density + resiliency + compression.
When we talk about softening, we are talking about compression changing. With wear, it will take less weight to compress the foam. This is a normal process and does not indicate that the foam is defective.
Fabric and cushion wrap material will also affect comfort. Stiffness, thickness of fabric, stretch of fabric and method of upholstery (loose or tight) can significantly affect the feel of any cushion.
In general, customers want to sit "into the cushion" rather than on top of it. Our foam is carefully chosen to improve cradling by distributing body weight evenly without allowing the coil deck unit to be felt underneath.
Note: Sleepers sit more firmly than stationary sofas due to the sleeper mechanism.

The FRAME is the foundation for every piece of furniture
- We use a #2 Yellow Poplar - a quality northern hardwood
- Our wood is kiln dried and stored in a covered tempature regulated warehouse
- Our wood is 7/8" thick in order to prevent warping which results in a more solid construction of every piece of furniture we produce
- Our frame contains 25% more lumber than our competition, which makes a Marshfield sofa 25% more solid
- For more construction information, click here.
The leg rails, and the front and back rails are the highest stress points on a frame
- We use fortress framing contruction to add to the strength in these areas
- Fortress frames prevent twisting and warping of the frame during shipping or moving
We add extra support brackets on the back for stability
- Our back springs are hand selected for each specific style of sofa to achieve the best possible comfort characteristics
- Each back spring is attached by hand with insulated clips to prevent squeaks
- We use wire ties to connect the back springs and keep them from twisting
- There is an insulated layer added between back springs to protect the padding from the springs. This also prevents premature breakdown of the foam which lengthens the life of the piece
The arms of all of our sofas are crafted with solid wood. So the wood is covered with a heavy weight cardboard to shape the curves. Foam, Dacron and other shaping products are then added to produce the style and comfort in the arms,
necessary in each piece of furniture.
Coil springs are used to provide uniform and very comfortable seating
- Our coil seating unit uses "eight-way wire-tied" springs
- Our coil seating unit is part of Marshfield Furniture's exclusive "patented First Convertable" system that allows most of our sofas to be easily converted to sleepers in just minutes (US patent #5,232,266 & Canada patent
#2,021,817)
- Coil seating units are called deck modules and can be ordered seperately from Marshfield Furniture
Marshfield Furniture's frames and springs carry a lifetime warranty. This warranty is void in cases of abuse, misuse, and commercial use beyond one year.
